From Clay to Stone

By Hortence Brouwn

Date: December 19, 2020 . Extended till February 6

The Journey of a Sculptor - From Clay to Stone
With the exhibition 'The Journey of a Sculptor - from Clay to Stone' Hortence allows the public to discover the creative journey she has gone through as an artist. For more than half a century, numerous works of art have been created by Hortence. She has exhibited locally and internationally. Her work is on display at public places and much of her work has been purchased by private collectors around the world. Although she has an outside workshop in the garden and has exhibited at several occasions in group shows, this is her first solo at Landhuis Bloemhof.
Her work varies in shape, material, and style. Over the years she has worked in clay, cement, and a variety of stones from different countries and the 'Tafelberg'. "When working with clay you work from the inside out and when working with stone you work from the outside in".

In many respects, 2020 was a year of crisis. A year in which even the simplest acts of human kindness - a touch, an embrace, suddenly came to feel like precious forbidden fruits.

This December, Landhuis Bloemhof invites you to participate in a collaborative art project. Coached by artist and Terramar museum (Bonaire) Director Jude Finies you can help create this year's ornaments and other decorations for our Christmas Tree of Hope.

The tree will be installed in Bloemhof's central courtyard, and together we'll transform the area to create a vibrant, colorful space and a Christmas tree to suit the shift we all crave. A joint expression of hope, of a shift towards new and better days. Let’s embrace each other through this joint expression of art.

A tree is a very powerful symbol for life. A tree grows no matter the circumstances and will hold on to its leaves and branches through good times and bad ones. For as long as it can. Trees root and make the best of the place they were planted.
The Tree of life workshop invites you to create your own tree on canvas adorned with buttons and other recycled materials. This workshop will be guided by Natalie van Tol and Alexine Heijde. Both will handle a group of 4.

You can book your own group (max 4) or just sign up individually.
