Fundashon Pegasaya and Bloemhof invite you to an Award Celebration honoring Hester Jonkhout on either Friday October 15 or Saturday October 16.
Hester Jonkhout recently won the Cinematography Award 2021 at the Caribbean Tales International Film festival with the movie La Dama Blanca (2021). We will celebrate this wonderful achievement by showing the wining film together with 5 short films by Hester Jonkhout.

La Dama Blanca 
La Dama Blanca - Rina Penso - cherishes the past. What’s life worth without her memories? That’s where she finds him, her great love. In the music of "Te Busco" he shines in his role. She stands before him, dressed in white, and he kisses her, a kiss that still burns on her lips.
Her butler Sancho - Giovanni Abath - is determined to pull "his" Dama Blanca back to the present, but her ex-lover haunts the house. In the music, in his photos, in her mind ... Francis is a ghost that Sancho cannot put his finger on.
"La Dama Blanca" is a filmed adaptation of the eponymous play. A classic rendition in which the longing for love is the central theme. This Short Film is a project of Guus de Sain, as Director and Producer and Hester Jonkhout as Director of Photography and Editor. Actors are Rina Penso and Giovanni Abath.

Vrijdag 3 september, een magische kunstavond onder de sterren ⭐
De Kathedraal van Doornen van Herman van Bergen zal voortaan iedere eerste vrijdag van de maand vanaf 19.00u open zijn voor bezoekers. Cathedral of Thorns by Night is een unieke avond waarbij de kathedraal volledig verlicht is en er rondleidingen van de artiest zelf plaatsvinden. Herman van Bergen heeft met zijn Kathedraal van Doornen de CODAaward 2020 in de categorie landschap gewonnen. De CODAawards is een jaarlijkse internationale prijs voor projecten die het beste kunst in opdracht integreren in interieurs, architectuur of publieke ruimtes. Dit kunstwerk verenigt alle thema's van Van Bergens eerdere doornkunstsculpturen in één omvangrijk project: een gebouw ter ere van Moeder Natuur en de Vrije Geest dat door creativiteit verandering teweegbrengt.
“Gedurende deze avonden kunnen zowel lokale bezoekers als toeristen een kijkje nemen in de kathedraal die volledig bestaat uit doornen. Voor de gelegenheid is de kathedraal prachtig verlicht en de artiest, Herman van Bergen zal zelf ook aanwezig zijn. Iedereen heeft de mogelijkheid om Herman persoonlijk te ontmoeten en vragen te stellen over de kathedraal en de totstandkoming hiervan. Tevens is het een goede gelegenheid om prachtige foto’s van de kathedraal te maken. De verlichting zorgt voor een magisch effect en laat de schoonheid van de kathedraal nog beter tot zijn recht komen. Tevens is op deze avond ook de Zumpiña shop geopend. De winkel is de perfecte plek om een uniek cadeau te kopen of een mooi kunstwerk voor in huis of kantoor.
Reserveren is aan te raden. Kaarten zijn beperkt.

Many of us have had to say goodbye and let go in the past year. Let go of friends, relatives, partners, children. But also of a job, of income, of security and especially of the way we were used to dealing with loss. Where was the space or time to reflect on our loss, process it and move on? In that sense, Covid-19 has turned our inner world upside down. Mourning is important for people to be able to continue after loss.

During Hala rosea i sigui different options will be offered in the open air to travel inside to get to our inner feelings and to reflect and find a way to move on. Through meditation, movement, painting, rituals, words and of course silence. Richenel 'Muz' Ansano, Ageeth Termars and Vali Leonora will guide this process. The evening will start together at 7.00 pm and will end together at 10:00 pm. The contribution for participation is 7.50 per person (tea, coffee and water and materials are included). E Wega di Bida is an ode to the maturing process of life where self-development takes the forefront. “In the game of life you are the player and your opponent. You decide your next move, but you are also in charge of your reaction to it”, according to Rosaria.

Rosaria compares the game of life with the game of chess. The game of chess has dominant black and white colors. Symbolizing the extremes in life, the good and the bad in you and what lies in between.

For this exhibition, the artist used a variety of techniques, materials and vibrant Caribbean colors. With these materials she created textures to add depth and character to her work. With this, she wants to illustrate that each life path has several layers. Life is not always a smooth ride.

Apart from the repetitive theme of black and white checkered fields in her work she also plays with other recurring forms and (human and/or animal) figures. Each having a different meaning.

About the artist
Rosaria finished her studies at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Beeldende Kunsten (The Netherlands) in 1993. Since 1990 she had various solo exhibition and took part in many group exhibitions in The Netherlands and Curaçao. Her work can be seen in homes, buildings, offices and private collections worldwide. Apart from being a visual artist Rosaria is also art teacher at the secondary school Maria Immaculata Lyceum. For some years now she has been designing carnival costumes for the teen parade for which she received the best designer award in 2019 and the best group overall award in 2020.

Forma di mi Alma sheds light on the oeuvre of Bettie Abbad van Lange and consists of ceramic sculptures and objects, but also drawings and paintings from the 1960's until recent years. Her contribution to the development of Curaçao ceramic art in the second half of the last century is significant.

Around 11.30 am on the opening day, art historian Josée Thissen-Rojer will hold an introduction and tell us more about the artist's work and life.

Bettie Abbad van Lange is a ceramist 'pur sang', with a passionate drive that pushes her towards perfection time and again. A final shape is not just a shape but represents the culmination of an inner quest that is brought to light through her hands. The materials, the shapes and the finishing with glazes and textures capture not only the process but also the story - or perhaps better - the message that this artist wants to share.
This exhibition shows work ranging from the 1960's to 2004 and gives an overview of the various journeys that Bettie has taken with her ceramics, paintings and drawings.

About Bettie Abbad van Lange
After her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Applied Arts St. Joost in Breda, the Netherlands, Bettie Abbad van Lange (1941) worked for five years at the prestigious Experimental Department of De Porceleyne Fles (Delft Blue) in Delft. In 1971 she moved to the Caribbean with her husband Dito Abbad. First they lived in Bonaire, then went to Curaçao where she set up her studio. She experimented a great deal with the structure(s) of clay, glaze recipes, and was a ceramics teacher at the Akademia di Arte, which had just opened.

Bettie Abbad van Lange exhibited throughout the Netherlands, in Germany and countless times in Curaçao (25 exhibitions in total). Her work has been acquired by the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Porceleyne Fles in Delft, the 'Rijkscollectie' in The Hague, the Municipal Museum of Arnhem, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia, and is also in private collections in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Curaçao, Venezuela, Aruba and Costa Rica. In Curaçao her work is also in corporate collections such as the Court of Justice, SVB and the Sint Elisabeth Gasthuis (our former hospital)
