Artist Talk
Anan Striker
Instituto Buena Bista

Wednesday October 25  | 7 PM

Instituto Buena Bista in cooperation with Landhuis Bloemhof is delighted to announce an artist talk by our current artist in residence Anan Striker.
Striker is in residence at IBB for a period of four months in the program sponsored by the Mondriaan Fund.

During this talk Striker will talk about his multifaceted artist practice and what he has been doing in the time he has already spent here on Curacao.

ANAN STRIKER
Painter, sculptor, typographer, lithographer, image poet and tape jockey (Assen, NL, ‘88).

Fascinated by daily life, Anan draws inspiration from the everyday: sports, music, language, love, and art. He doesn't limit himself to a single subject but combines them freely: a life event, an unexpected encounter, a 'tidbit' that comes his way, a sporting victory, or a found object that Anan appropriates.
He intuitively translates them into drawings, prints, sculptures, installations, and paintings. Often with a longing for nostalgia and accompanied by his affection for cassette tapes. With an eye for detail while never losing sight of the grand gesture. This is how Anan creates poetic, alienating adjustments to reality.

At Landhuis Bloemhof, he will give a presentation about his experiences and adventures at Instituto Buena Bista and Dushi Kòrsou so far.

Meet the Artists
Ailsa Anastatia
and Sandra Golbert - de Aldrey

Tuesday October 17 | 7 PM

To learn more about the interplay of fabric, texture, and the profound connection between art and nature, we invite you to meet both artists on Tuesday October 17 at 7 PM. Sandra Golbert - de Aldrey will also be talking about silk painting.

Sandra Golbert - de Aldrey, a self-taught master of fiber art, takes viewers on a colorful voyage with her hand-dyed silk, surface design and fabric manipulation. From her early days designing dolls' clothes, which she still does and sells on Etsy, to having her designs grace the pages of ‘Vogue’ magazine and ‘Architectural Digest’, Golbert's artistic journey has been nothing short of exceptional. Her artwork, which began on the body; designing costumes for carnivals and for Broadway theater and dresses for debutants and brides, now adorns large hotel walls and spaces. Sandra, who was born in Puerto Rico, has a special connection with Curacao. She used to live on the island in the 70’s where she would spend her days creating for commissions, shows and exhibitions. With a deep love for the sea and vibrant tropical flora, Golbert's art embodies the essence of island life while seamlessly integrating neutral tones in her silk creations. Sandra participated in many exhibitions, solo and group, throughout the years like the exhibition titled “9x9x3” at the American Craft Museum (now the Museum of Art and Design) in New York City. This show traveled throughout the US for 4 years. She also has a piece in the Zimmerli Museum at Rutgers University, in the permanent collection of the National Association of Women Artists. Her work can be found in many countries, in residences, corporate offices and hotels in the USA, the Caribbean, South America and in Puerto Rico.

Ailsa Anastatia attended the Fontys School of Fine and Performing Arts before finalizing her formal education at the Amsterdam University of the Arts in The Netherlands. Anastatia has many solo and group exhibitions under her belt and her artwork is displayed in collections in the USA, South America, the Caribbean, and The Netherlands. Anastatia is a versatile artist that explores diverse themes, from spirituality and memories to cultural heritage and ecological issues impacting Curaçao. Ailsa Anastatia, in her recent series titled "Resilient Horizons", made possible by the Prins Bernhard Cultuur Fonds, invites viewers to pass through her artistic journey that interweaves untouched landscapes with human-altered ones. Her works thoughtfully narrate Curaçao's evolving landscapes and emphasize the importance of acknowledging historical imprints while fostering optimism for the future.

Silent Auction of ‘De Leusden’

Silent Auction of 'De Leusden' Art Piece

Roberto Tjon A Meeuw

Silent Auction started
Auction Finale on September 29

In the continuation of our 'Sorry' exhibition, we shine a spotlight on a remarkable metal artwork in our current exhibition Lanta! titled 'De Leusden.' This piece, a prominent feature of Roberto Tjon A Meeuw’s exhibition at Landhuis Bloemhof, is not just a testament to artistry, but also a reminder of a dark chapter in history.

'De Leusden' stands as a majestic metal ship, crafted from iron scraps and draped with Pangi, which is a traditional Suriname cloth, proudly commanding the exhibition hall. 'De Leusden' was once a vessel of the West Indian Company (WIC), tasked with the harrowing journey of transporting African slaves to the sugar fields of Suriname. On New Year's Day in 1738, tragedy struck as the ship struck a sandbank and capsized near the river mouth of the Marowijne River. What makes this story all the more heart-wrenching is the crew's response. Fearing a rebellion by the 650 enslaved souls on board, they sealed all possible exits, condemning those innocent lives to a watery grave. The crew survived, leaving a haunting legacy of injustice.

Now, 'De Leusden' is poised to be a catalyst for positive change. This piece will be available for auction, and all proceeds will go toward a cause close to Roberto Tjon A Meeuw's heart—teaching underprivileged children how to surf. By bidding on 'De Leusden,' you will not only acquire an art piece that honors history but you will also contribute to the future through the empowerment of the youth of Curaçao.

The auction of ‘De Leudsen’ will be conducted as a silent auction throughout the duration of the exhibition with an opening bid of Nafl 2.000,-. The grand finale will be the live auction, scheduled for Friday September 29, starting at 7 PM at Landhuis Bloemhof in the presence of auction master Michèle Russel-Capriles. This event will be accompanied by a festive closing, featuring musical beats by Roberto Tjon A Meeuw and Mathijs Rijne, renowned in the Netherlands for their unique fusion of local traditional music with a modern twist. Entrance to this event is free.

How does the silent auction work?

You fill out a form at Landhuis Bloemhof with your bid and toss it in the designated collection box you can find on the piano in the exhibition hall. Every Saturday we will update the silent auction to the highest amount bidden so far. You can also send us an e-mail via expo@bloemhof.cw so we can mail you the form for you to fill in and send back to us. This silent auction is anonymous till the grand finale where the starting bid will the amount raised up to September 29 at 2 pm.

We invite you to be a part of this journey—where art meets history, compassion meets action, and the legacy of 'De Leusden' continues to evolve in the realization of Roberto’s dream for our kids.
