Philippe Zanolino hardly needs an introduction in Curaçao. Who is not familiar with his paintings and sculptures His colorful canvasses are displayed in banks, offices and private homes. Philippe was born in 1960 in Perigaux (France) and settled in Curaçao in 1986. As an artist he is selftaught and allows the Upper Being to guide him while painting. Or like he himself says: “I am the instrument of God (…. and so are you).” It is the first time that Zanolino holds an exhibit in Landhuis Bloemhof. The title refers to the flower. For Zanolino the flower symbolizes the ultimate sacrifice , since a flower shows its most beautiful colors and spreads its most delightful scents just before it dies. According to him to believe in flowers is the same as believing in a world without chaos, danger, accident, misery etc. A view of the world that we remember from the sixties at the time of the flower-power movement. With this he wishes to convey a message of love. In addition to paintings he shows a couple of strong sculptures made from the rock hard Curaçao mahogany wood. During the opening a short impression of the movie ‘VELO-LOVE’ will be shown, a film directed by movie producer Rob Corsini from Los Angeles. In this movie a connection is made between Amsterdam and Curaçao and besides Zanolino both Jose Maria Capricorne and Nelson Carilho will be heard. Philippe Zanolino has had many exhibitions. Earlier he showed his work in Curaçao among others in Gallery ’86, Gallery Alma Blou, Villa Maria and Curaçaosch Museum. He also participated in various international expositions in The Netherlands, France, Venezuela, Brazil, Santo Domingo, Cuba, etc.etc. Recently his work was shown at the 6th International Biënale of Modern Art in Florence (Italy).
