Celestial Beauty - Beyesa Selestial - Hemelse Schoonheid.

An exhibition of icons made by Ivisona (Ive) Antonia. In writing the icons Ive Antonia mainly follows the Russian Orthodox tradition. The iconographer wants to reproduce the written word, expressed in religious texts, in a celestial way. An icon is manufactured with egg tempera and natural pigments on a wooden panel that has been treated with layers of chalk. The use of precious metals such as gold and silver emphasizes the divine.

Ive Antonia (1944) was born and raised on Curaçao. For the past 20 years Ive has been living in The Netherlands. In 2002 she participated in an iconography-course given by the iconographer drs. Elfriede Kuijpers. After that, more courses followed and also several educational trips together with the icon-specialist drs. Desiree Krikhaar to, amongst others, Cyprus. Ever since, Ive has fully dedicated herself to to the art of iconography.
