Live Painting by George Struikelblok
“Lob’ Makandra” is a surprising exhibition by George Struikelblok, an artist from Surinam Known for his large abstract and dynamic paintings and recently the winner of a Tommy award in the category ‘South America’ in Shanghai for ‘The One Minute’ film entitled ‘Portretten van Paramaribo’ (‘Portraits of Paramaribo’), we are much honored that George Struikelblok will be exhibiting in Curaçao for the first time. This remarkable exhibit is also made possible by SMS Attorneys at Law and the ORCO Bank, both of which have artwork by this world renowned young artist in their respective collections. Struikelblok’s art is characterized by an exuberant and bright use of color, as well as very personal symbols, which shed light on various personal aspects of his life. For instance, he grew up without a father, a huge void which he has finally managed to find a proper place for in his life via his painting. In Surinam George Struikelblok is no stranger. He teaches youngsters at the Nola Hatterman Art Academy and now he has his own studio ‘Atelier Struikelblok’, an extraordinarily inspiring space. His ideal is to set-up exchange projects with local and international artists to enable him and others to present themselves and develop. On Saturday May 15, 2010 he will be giving a demonstration by way of “Live Painting”, which literally means that he will be making a painting on site with his favorite music in the background. Everyone is invited to join this event which starts at 10:30 am. Entrance is free of charge. Landhuis Bloemhof is located at Santa Rosaweg 6, next to ‘Tap maar In’.
